Absorption - The process whereby one substance is physically taken into and
included within another substance, as the absorption of water by soil.

Additive - Any solid or liquid material or biological agent marketed primarily for
cleaning, treating, degreasing, unclogging, disinfecting, deodorizing or otherwise
affecting the performance of any component of an on-site system.

Adsorption - Attachment of a substance to the surface of a solid, such as soil
particles or sediment. Many different pollutants can adsorb to soil particles.

Alternating Bed Systems - Also known as an alternating leachfield. An absorption
system designed with a backup absorption field for use while the primary
